+1 pls - thx to codex I’ve started using linux - playing with omarchy.
They can manufacture and ship a bespoke aluminium Codex control deck, complete with live agent-state integration and a physical reasoning dial.
But the actual Codex desktop application still lists compatibility as Mac and Windows, while Linux users remain consigned to “register to join the waitlist”. The accessory page itself explicitly excludes Linux.
I joined it when it was first announced and we have see no meaningful movement since.
That makes the whole thing almost satirical:
OpenAI: Here is a physical command centre for managing your Codex agents.
Linux user: Excellent. May I have the native application it commands?
OpenAI: Please register your interest.
The frustrating part is that Linux is hardly an obscure edge case for Codex. It is where a disproportionate amount of serious software engineering, infrastructure, security, local tooling and agentic automation actually occurs. WSL and the CLI soften the problem, but neither is equivalent to a properly integrated Linux-native desktop workspace.
The logical product priority probably was:
- Linux-native Codex app.
- Robust multi-session and repository orchestration.
- Better persistent operational visibility.
- Then the delightful US$230 brainpower knob.
Instead, they have built the steering wheel before making the car available on one of its most natural roads.
Hi team, please release the Linux desktop app soon. We Linux users have been waiting for it, and we’d love to see it finally arrive!
