Cursor has launched its first country-specific subscription plan, and it's aimed squarely at India. Called Cursor Start, the new tier is priced at ₹649 per month (roughly $7) and is available exclusively to developers in India, payable via UPI, credit, or debit card. It sits between Cursor's free tier and its $20/month Pro plan, and it's the clearest signal yet that Cursor views India not as an emerging market, but as a core one.

Why India, why now

The numbers tell the story. Cursor's user base in India has tripled in the past year to more than 3 million developers, making it the company's third-largest market globally. More striking: India is home to more power users than any other market in the world, with developers there running more agent requests per developer than anywhere else.

India has emerged as one of the world's largest software developer hubs. Earlier this year, GitHub said the country has more than 27 million developers on its platform, second only to the U.S., with more than two million joining in 2026 alone. That's a market too large and too engaged to price at a flat $20/month.

Cursor's head of Asia-Pacific and Japan, Simon Green, put it plainly: the company saw an opportunity to "right-size the commercial model and drive scale." Two things Indian users had been asking for specifically were local pricing and UPI support. Cursor Start delivers both.
