Open AI recently announced a new Codex for Open Source plan at:

It is a fantastic initiative and covers:

What the program includes

  • Six months of ChatGPT Pro with Codex for day-to-day coding, triage, review, and maintainer workflows
  • Conditional access to Codex Security for repositories that need deeper security coverage
  • API credits through the Codex Open Source Fund for projects that use Codex in pull request review, maintainer automation, release workflows, or other core OSS work

A few of us at Discourse were accepted to the program overnight :hugs:

Thanks @tibo and all involved in kicking off the program.

Congrats on your repo stars!

The next achievement to unlock is to be in the list of “these partners in your vertical already have these testimonials about 5.4-codex before you got access”.

It would be wonderful, for sure. We spent so much time recently with GPT 5.4 xhigh scanning Discourse, I completed a 40 hour loop yesterday and fished out 20 or so security bugs that are super subtle.

It sure would be nice to be involved a bit more :hugs:

Hi — I’m a core developer and maintainer of Cherry Studio(CherryHQ/cherry-studio) ,(GitHub: MyPrototypeWhat, ~200 commits). I was accepted into Codex for Open Source and granted 6 months of ChatGPT Pro on my account. I’m posting from my secondary account because the deactivated one can no longer log in.

On July 14 that account was deactivated — I believe by an automated false positive. In the 13 days since, no communication has ever told me which policy I supposedly violated. Here’s the full loop I’ve been through:

  • Appeal (Case C-InVGcaTdRU3F): denied without a reason, stating no further appeals would be considered.
  • Support (Case 12087050): after two weeks of back-and-forth, Support directed me to resubmit through the appeal form with specific details included. I did — and within minutes got an automated “We have already reviewed your appeal and the original decision stands.”
  • Support then confirmed it “is not able to confirm or disclose a review decision” and that only a specialized team can act — a team whose only inbound channel is the appeal form that auto-rejects me.

To be clear: I have never shared, sold, or pooled my account. Every use was by me personally, on my own devices, for the open-source work this program was meant to support.

Since the grant came from this program, could someone from the program team help get actual human eyes on this internally? And if the original account truly cannot be restored, I’d ask the team to consider re-issuing the remaining months of the grant so the work can continue. Happy to provide any verification — acceptance email, commit history, anything. Thanks!
