Bridging the Literacy Gap

According to a 2025 report by the Higher Education Policy Institute, 92% of students are already using AI, while 45% of educators globally report having zero formal training to guide them. Amii’s partnership with the Alberta Government directly addresses this readiness gap, moving AI literacy into the classroom as a foundational literacy to be taught with confidence.

The new AI learning kits are designed to complement existing digital literacy curricula, offering age-appropriate, responsible, and safe pathways for students to explore AI. The initiative addresses several key pillars of educational evolution:

Empowering Educators: Providing world-class training and resources teachers need to lead the AI conversation, tackling essential topics like: Harnessing the potential of generative AI tool; AI in the Real World; and Careers Reimagined.

Safe & Ethical Integration: Establishing clear expectations around privacy, security, and academic integrity.

Collaborative Development: This fall, the government and Amii will engage with businesses and education partners to ensure the kits meet the practical needs of the future workforce.

The new AI learning kits will be available to public, separate, francophone, charter, First Nations and independent school boards by spring 2028.
