Why is OpenAI forcing unwanted interface features on everyone without offering a way to disable them?
Examples include the navigation-marker stack beside the scrollbar and the mandatory preview that opens whenever I click a PDF or another file or even when I only want to download it. These features may be useful to some people, but for others they create clutter, unwanted pop-ups, and extra steps.
The issue isn’t that these features exist. The issue is that users are forced to use them. Why not provide simple settings such as:
-
Disable navigation markers
-
Download files directly instead of opening previews
-
Turn off automatic previews and other intrusive interface elements
Is this temporary while the interface is being developed, or is this OpenAI’s direction going forward, adding whatever features it chooses and giving users no way to opt out?
Please don’t follow the microsoft-style approach of forcing every new interface idea onto every user. Add useful features, but also give us control over our own workspace.
Basic opt-out settings would prevent good ideas from becoming constant annoyances.
