I’m getting a persistent error when trying to start a new chat using the official ChatGPT Chrome extension (extension ID: hehggadaopoacecdllhhajmbjkdcmajg).

Error message: “Error creating chat — The system cannot find the file specified. (os error 2)”

Key detail: I can continue existing/old chats normally, but I cannot create any new chat. This only happens with new chats.

What I’ve already tried (none worked):

  • Cleared cookies and site data for chatgpt (including partitioned storage)

  • Cleared/removed local storage data for the extension itself (chrome-extension ID hehggadaopoacecdllhhajmbjkdcmajg)

  • Removed and reinstalled the extension completely

  • Restarted Chrome and the computer

  • Tested in an incognito window with the extension enabled

  • Disabled all other extensions to rule out conflicts

  • Updated Chrome to the latest version

  • Confirmed I’m on the correct/same Chrome profile

Here are a few troubleshooting steps from the Chrome extension guide, though you’ve already completed some of them.

  • Update the ChatGPT desktop app, and remove any duplicate ChatGPT or Codex desktop app installations.
  • Close the ChatGPT side panel, restart Chrome, then reopen the extension.
  • If you see a missing native host message, remove and re-add the Chrome plugin from the desktop app’s Plugins section.
  • Confirm the Chrome plugin is enabled and that you’re using the same Chrome profile where the extension is installed.
  • Start a new ChatGPT Work or Codex chat, then retry the task.

Tried the Edge browser extension and I get the exact same error, btw… :face_exhaling:
