This is not a duplicate submission of my previous feature request.

I previously submitted a request asking for clearer visibility into remaining Live Voice time and advance notice when a Live model is approaching its usage limit. That request was subsequently forwarded for further consideration.

I am submitting this as a specific refinement of that request after learning more about how Live Voice usage limits are structured.

The issue I am trying to address is not simply that I would like a countdown timer. The larger problem is that Live Voice access is governed by usage limits measured over a rolling period, while the user is given very little visibility into the current state of those limits.

That creates a practical transparency problem.

What I am requesting

I would like ChatGPT to provide a visible Live Voice usage-status interface that shows, at minimum:

  • How much Live Voice time is currently available.

  • How much of each applicable Live model allowance has already been used.

  • Separate remaining-time information for different Live model tiers when those limits are tracked separately.

  • When additional usage will next become available.

  • If possible, approximately how much usage will become available at that time.

  • Advance warnings before a Live limit is reached.

  • Clear notice when reaching a limit will cause the conversation to switch to another Live model or capability.

A simple implementation could look something like:

Live Voice usage

  • GPT-Live-1: 18 minutes remaining

  • GPT-Live-1 Mini: 1 hour 22 minutes remaining

  • Next replenishment: approximately 14 minutes available at 2:20 AM

The exact interface is not important. The important part is making the underlying usage information visible to the user.

Why this is different from my previous request

My earlier request focused primarily on knowing how much Live Voice time remained and receiving warnings before a model change.

This refinement addresses a more fundamental problem:

A rolling usage limit cannot reasonably be tracked by the user without access to the usage data that ChatGPT itself is already using to enforce that limit.

With a fixed daily reset, a user can at least remember when their allowance returns.

With a rolling system, the amount available may depend on when previous usage occurred. Without a visible meter or replenishment information, the user cannot reliably determine when they can begin a Live session, how long they can expect it to last, or when additional capacity will return.

That makes planning around the feature unnecessarily difficult.

Why this matters to me as a paying user

I use Live Voice for more than brief casual interactions. I sometimes use it during longer periods of focused work, troubleshooting, research, planning, or other activities where maintaining a continuous conversation is valuable.

When I begin one of those sessions, I currently have no reliable way of knowing whether I have nearly my full allowance available or whether I may lose access a few minutes later.

That uncertainty directly affects whether I can depend on Live Voice for the task I am trying to accomplish.

For work that is important to me, knowing when I can actually use the tool and for approximately how long is operationally important information.

I am also not requesting this because I want OpenAI to simply increase my limits.

I understand that usage limits may be necessary.

What I am asking for is visibility into the limits that already exist.

I also do not believe the appropriate solution for this problem should simply be requiring users to move to a substantially more expensive subscription tier in hopes of receiving additional Voice access, particularly when that may still not provide an unconditional guarantee of unlimited Live Voice availability.

This is fundamentally a transparency and usability issue, not a request for free additional compute.

Why I believe this should be treated as a core usability feature

The system already has to know:

  • which Live model I am using,

  • how much of its allowance I have consumed,

  • whether I am currently eligible to use it,

  • and when that eligibility changes.

The user currently receives the result of those calculations only when a limit is reached.

Surfacing the underlying status would make the system predictable instead of surprising.

For a paid feature governed by multiple usage limits and a rolling usage window, I believe users should be able to see the state of those limits before beginning a session.

I am therefore asking that this be considered not merely as an optional convenience feature, but as a usage-transparency improvement for Live Voice.

I am aware that broader requests for ChatGPT usage dashboards have also been submitted by other users. This request is intentionally narrower. It concerns the specific usability problem created by Live Voice’s rolling limits, separate model allowances, and the possibility of model switching during an active conversation.

Thank you for considering this refinement of my earlier request.
