I’m a paying Pro user, and I’m extremely frustrated with the way Codex resets are handled now.

I pay around CHF 83 per month because I genuinely need Codex for professional work. I use it regularly and intensively, but not abusively. I manage my usage carefully because I depend on it for real development work.

The problem is the automatic reset system.

After my normal 7-day quota reset, I go back to 100%. Then I may only use around 20% of my quota, leaving me with roughly 80% remaining.

A few hours later, OpenAI may automatically apply another reset and bring me back to 100%.

That reset is basically useless.

I had 80% remaining, so the reset only gives me 20% of actual additional usage. The other 80% of the value of that reset is simply wasted.

This makes absolutely no sense from a user perspective.

Previously, the banked reset system was much better. A reset could be kept in reserve, and I could decide when to use it. That allowed me to actually benefit from the full reset when I needed it.

I am not asking for unlimited usage.

I am simply asking for one of these two very reasonable options:

  1. Let the user decide when to apply an additional reset.

OR

  1. Only apply the automatic reset once the user has reached, or is very close to, 0% remaining quota.

Anything else means that users can lose a huge amount of potential working capacity simply because OpenAI decides to apply the reset at the wrong moment.

For professional users, this is not a small inconvenience. It directly affects how much work we can complete during the week and makes usage planning impossible.

This has happened to me multiple times, and I have already complained about it.

Because of this, I cancelled my subscription.

As long as OpenAI keeps applying resets this way, I will not renew. I will move my development work to Anthropic and give them my subscription money instead.

I would much rather stay with Codex, but paying CHF 83 per month while having valuable resets effectively wasted by an automatic system is simply not viable for me.

Please bring back proper banked resets, or at minimum stop automatically resetting users who still have a large percentage of their quota remaining.

A reset should give the user additional usable capacity, not overwrite capacity they have already paid for and have not yet used.
