Purpose: Product ideas for consideration
Introduction
I have three ideas that I believe could benefit OpenAI by improving user conversion, helping discover problems in AI systems, and creating new ways to identify talented people interested in AI.
These are suggestions rather than fully developed business plans, but I believe they are worth testing through small experiments.
- 7–14 Day Premium Trial
Idea
Give selected new users a 7–14 day trial of premium features.
The purpose would be to let users experience the additional capabilities before deciding whether to subscribe.
Why it could work
Some users may not subscribe because they don’t understand how much value premium features can provide.
After using the features themselves, they may be more likely to become paying subscribers.
Possible experiment
Test different groups:
- Group A: no trial
- Group B: 7-day trial
- Group C: 14-day trial
Compare:
- Trial-to-paid conversion
- Retention
- Usage
- Revenue
- Cost of providing the trial
This would determine whether the trial actually improves the business rather than simply increasing usage.
- AI Bug Hunter / Find the Mistake Challenge
Idea
Create a program where users can find and report genuine mistakes in AI responses.
Examples could include:
- Incorrect factual claims
- Mathematical mistakes
- Reasoning failures
- Coding errors
- Inconsistent answers
- Reproducible weaknesses in model behavior
Valid discoveries could earn points, recognition, prizes, or other rewards depending on their severity and usefulness.
Why it could work
It creates a feedback loop:
More testing → more errors discovered → better reports → model/product improvements
It would also encourage people to actively test the system rather than simply use it.
Important design principle
Not every mistake should receive the same reward.
A minor typo could receive little or no reward, while a difficult, reproducible, systematic model failure could receive a substantially higher reward.
Security vulnerabilities should remain handled through the appropriate security disclosure process.
- AI Skills Entrance Exam for Job Opportunities
Idea
Create an optional AI skills entrance exam for people interested in AI-related employment.
Instead of relying only on degrees, CVs, or previous experience, candidates could demonstrate their ability through a standardized assessment.
Possible exam areas
Depending on the role, the assessment could test:
- AI fundamentals
- Logical reasoning
- Coding
- Problem solving
- Prompt design
- AI evaluation
- Detecting model errors
- Building AI workflows
- Product thinking
Example hiring pathway
Entrance exam → practical task → human review/interview → normal hiring decision
The exam would not automatically guarantee employment. It would give capable people another way to demonstrate their skills and potentially reach the hiring process.
Why I think this matters
There are many people who understand AI and can solve problems but may not have a traditional background or impressive résumé.
A skills-based entrance route could help discover talent that traditional recruiting might overlook.

These three ideas could work together:

Give people a reason to experience advanced AI.

Give people a reason to test and improve AI.
AI Skills Exam
Give talented people a way to demonstrate their abilities.
Together, they could create a cycle:
More users → more experimentation → more feedback → better AI → more opportunities for talented users.
I would recommend testing each idea as a small, measurable experiment before attempting a large-scale launch.
