I recently contacted OpenAI Support because I was curious how old my account actually was.

They confirmed that my OpenAI account was created on June 10, 2022.

That caught me off guard because ChatGPT wasn’t publicly released until November 2022, meaning I’ve apparently had an OpenAI account since several months before ChatGPT even existed publicly.

I’ve continued using OpenAI products over the years and I’m still an active ChatGPT Plus subscriber today, so I thought that was a pretty cool bit of account history.

I asked Support whether OpenAI currently has any kind of early-adopter or account-age recognition, such as:

  • An “Early Adopter” or “Founding User” badge
  • Account anniversary badges
  • A profile designation showing the year someone joined
  • Some kind of recognition for accounts that predate ChatGPT
  • Even occasional commemorative swag for particularly early users

Support confirmed that there isn’t currently a program like this, but they did log the idea as product feedback and suggested I share it here with the community.

I think it could be a fun little feature. OpenAI and ChatGPT have changed enormously over the last few years, and there are probably some interesting accounts still around from the GPT-3/Playground era before ChatGPT became what it is today.

It would be cool to recognize some of that history.

And yes, if OpenAI ever decides that people with pre-ChatGPT accounts deserve a ridiculously unnecessary “I was here before ChatGPT” shirt or sticker, I volunteer as tribute. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Curious if anyone else here has an account from before November 2022. How far back does yours go?

You ask: Does anyone have an account even as much as a year older than yours—or a forum account just as old? Yes, sure. Even “codex”, the original model that could complete code snippets, is from 2021. There are thousands of accounts belonging to people who also found this forum.

Searching past topics to show you users who predate you by a year… how about one on using instruct-trained AI models on the API, with a Playground screenshot, dating from a year before your account was created?

Hi, Since yesterday I am struggling trying to fine tune the prompt to do the following. I would like GPT3 to ask 5 arbitrary questions to a text for which the answer can be either yes or no and if possible to put the correct answer next to the question. The best engine to do this is I guess davinci or curie from the Instruct series, but I am not able to always get the expected result. My prompt is the following: Given a text, ask 5 questions for which the answer can be “yes” or “no”. Put the…

Still, congrats early adopter!

Spend about 100 billion tokens in API use, then the physical accolades become an option, like a little trophy, or OpenAI gave out a pen (the writing implement) a bit ago for those who also filled out a form.

And, welcome to the Developer Forum today.
