Feature Request: The Husband Acquisition Algorithm™ — AI Matchmaking Based on Actual Compatibility, Not Hiking
Dear OpenAI Team,
I have a feature request that I believe could genuinely improve the lives of a large number of people: AI-powered matchmaking through ChatGPT.
And yes, I am calling it the Husband Acquisition Algorithm™ because if we’re going to solve loneliness, we might as well have a sense of humor about it.
The problem
Current dating apps are largely built around profiles, photographs, preferences, location, and self-reported compatibility. They can tell you that two people both like hiking, dogs, travel, or tacos.
But those things don’t necessarily tell you whether two people would actually build a good life together.
There are many adults—particularly people 35, 40, and beyond—who are serious about marriage but struggle to meet people who are genuinely compatible.
This can be especially difficult for Christians who want a spouse who shares their faith and values but don’t necessarily fit neatly into traditional church singles programs or dating-app demographics.
The idea
What if ChatGPT could offer an opt-in matchmaking service based on actual compatibility rather than a profile?
A user could voluntarily create a matchmaking profile and explicitly authorize ChatGPT to use information they provide for the purpose of finding compatible matches.
Instead of asking only:
ChatGPT could understand much deeper compatibility factors, including:
-
Core values and faith
-
Personality and temperament
-
Communication style
-
Emotional maturity
-
Relationship expectations
-
Marriage and family goals
-
Lifestyle preferences
-
Financial and career expectations
-
Conflict-resolution styles
-
Social needs and introversion/extroversion
-
Sense of humor
-
Dealbreakers
-
Geographic flexibility
-
Long-term goals
-
What each person actually needs from a partner to thrive
The AI could then identify people whose overall relationship compatibility is unusually strong, even when their superficial profiles don’t look identical.
In other words:
Not “You both like hiking.”
More like:
“You have compatible values, communication styles, expectations for marriage, personalities, faith, lifestyle goals, and relationship needs. You should probably meet.”
Why ChatGPT is uniquely positioned for this
People reveal far more about themselves in an ongoing conversation than they ever put in a dating profile.
Over time, an AI can potentially understand nuances that a checkbox-based dating service cannot:
Who someone actually is—not just how they describe themselves on a dating profile.
The goal wouldn’t be for AI to decide who someone should marry. It would be to identify potentially compatible people whom the individuals themselves might never have discovered.
The humans still make the decisions.
The AI simply helps solve the “How on earth do two compatible people actually find each other?” problem.
Privacy and consent would be essential
This would need to be completely opt-in.
Using ChatGPT should never automatically make someone’s conversations available for matchmaking.
Users would explicitly choose to participate, create a matchmaking profile, determine what information can be used, and be able to leave the program at any time.
Matching should also require mutual consent before either person’s identifying information is revealed.
A particularly important use case: people over 40
There is a large population of single adults who genuinely want marriage but have aged out of many traditional singles environments.
They aren’t necessarily looking for casual dating.
They aren’t necessarily interested in starting over with someone completely incompatible simply because the person happens to be available.
They are looking for someone with whom they can build the rest of their life.
AI could potentially make the search dramatically more efficient.
And yes, I would personally use this.
For example, my matchmaking criteria would include:
-
Christian
-
Serious about marriage
-
Emotionally mature
-
Kind and dependable
-
Compatible communication style
-
Similar core values
-
Actually wants a relationship rather than endless messaging
-
Willing to relocate for the right person—or open to someone relocating to them
-
Same country unless both people specifically feel called to missionary work
-
And, importantly, not matched solely because we both like hiking.

I love hiking. But I would prefer an algorithm that understands that hiking is a hobby and not a personality.
There are lonely, wonderful, marriage-minded people all over the country who may be exceptionally compatible but have almost no realistic way of finding each other.
Please build the Husband Acquisition Algorithm™ for the sake of all humankind.
Sincerely,
A highly motivated prospective beta tester
