Feature request: Adjustable speed for Read Aloud
Please add playback-speed controls to ChatGPT’s Read Aloud feature, such as 0.5×, 0.75×, 1×, 1.25× and 1.5×.
I use ChatGPT extensively for learning Thai. Read Aloud is extremely useful because it can pronounce Thai study material, but the current reading speed is often too fast for a learner to distinguish individual words and phrases.
Formatting responses with extra punctuation and line breaks helps somewhat, but it is only a workaround and makes the study material unnecessarily long.
Ideally, playback speed should be adjustable independently of the generated text, just as it is in podcasts, audiobooks and language-learning apps.
An even better implementation would allow a persistent preferred Read Aloud speed, for example 0.7×, so language learners do not have to change it every time.
This would make Read Aloud substantially more useful for language learning, pronunciation practice and shadowing.
Hey @shekharsahu!
Adjustable speed would make Read Aloud much more flexible, especially for language learning where being able to slow down pronunciation can make it easier to pick out individual words and phrases.
We have seen similar requests for playback speed controls before, so the added context around Thai learning, pronunciation practice, and shadowing is really useful.
I also like the idea of remembering a preferred speed instead of having to adjust it every time. That would make the feature much more practical for people who regularly listen at a different pace.
I cannot promise a timeline for changes like this, but I will pass your feedback along internally.
