Feature Request: Password/PIN Protection for ChatGPT Projects

I would like to suggest adding an optional password or PIN lock for individual ChatGPT Projects.

In many offices, multiple employees may use the same computer or shared ChatGPT workspace. Sometimes a user may want to keep a specific project private because it contains personal work, drafts, files, research, or confidential information.

A useful feature could be:

  • Right-click or open Project settings

  • Select “Lock Project”

  • Set a PIN or password

  • Show a :locked: icon next to the project name

  • Require the PIN/password whenever someone tries to open that project

  • Optionally support biometric authentication on supported devices

For example:

Click → Enter PIN → Project opens

This would provide an extra layer of privacy without requiring the user to log out of the entire ChatGPT account.

I believe this would be especially helpful for workplaces, shared computers, and users who keep sensitive information inside Projects.

This is an interesting idea, especially for users who keep personal or sensitive work inside Projects and want an extra layer of protection without locking the entire ChatGPT account.

ChatGPT already has account level security options, but there is currently no separate PIN or password lock for individual Projects. A Project specific lock, with optional biometric authentication where supported, could give users more control over which areas remain accessible on a shared device.

We have also seen similar feedback around adding stronger privacy controls for individual Projects, so the additional detail about how you would expect the locking flow to work is helpful.

I cannot promise a timeline or whether this will be added, but I will pass your feedback along internally.
