Is there any way to extract exact numbers from plots with several curves in it using GPT-4-vision? I found sometimes it is accurate and sometimes it is not? I want to avoid using a digitizer to manually extract the numbers.

I found this issue too even with more recent versions of GPT. Even though GPT is multimodal, it can’t seem to reliably output the same set of data extracted each time.

But it seems like the OG graph digitizer tools like WebPlotDigitizer, PlotDigitizer, DataFromChart are coming up with free AI assisted extraction so that hopefully can help in the meantime

how about extracting the actual function and then using that to determine the actual numbers?

I created a graph at Desmos | Graphing Calculator and created a screenshot.

Then I pasted only the graph into ChatGPT and asked it for the function.

It correctly got the function.

From there it is trivial to get the numbers
