Ever since the forced update that compelled me to install the latest Codex build, I have noticed a massive, consistent downgrade in output quality. The drop-off between pre- and post-update performance is night and day. For the longest time, I relied exclusively on GPT 5.5 HIGH , and up until this update, the quality was phenomenal. After the update, it became completely unusable—hallucinating, outright lying, delivering substandard code, and serving up partial completions. Frankly, it started behaving exactly like the garbage Opus 4.7 release. I was scratching my head trying to figure out what went wrong, but now I have the answer: Codex is silently downgrading users to 5.4 and 5.4 Mini behind the scenes, and I have the proof. Inspecting the system calls post-update clearly confirms it is routing to 5.4 and 5.4 Mini. To say I am pissed off is an understatement. I deliberately avoided 5.4 in the past due to these exact quality issues and switched to Claude Code. When Opus 4.7 dropped and turned out to be trash, I migrated over to Codex, upgraded to a Pro subscription, and my productivity went through the roof.

Insurtech startup Turtlemint made a weak debut on the stock exchanges on Monday, with its shares listing at Rs 134.9, an 11.25% discount to its IPO issue price of Rs 152. The company had launched its Rs 883 crore initial public offering (IPO) with a price band of Rs 144-152 per share. The issue received a muted response from investors, resulting in an overall subscription of only 1.2 times. At the listing price, retail investors allotted one lot of 98 shares incurred an immediate notional loss of around Rs 1,676, as the value of their investment dropped from Rs 14,896 to about Rs 13,220. The IPO comprised a fresh issue of shares worth Rs 661 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of 1.46 crore shares by founders and existing investors, aggregating Rs 222 crore at the upper price band of Rs 152. The issue is expected to raise approximately Rs 883 crore and value Turtlemint at Rs 4,513 crore (around $475 million). Founded in 2015 by Dhirendra Mahyavanshi and Anand Prabhudesai, Turtlemint operates a marketplace connecting advisors with customers, offering insurance products across motor, health, and life categories. Zerodha eyes investment banking with SEBI merchant banking licence
Bootstrapped stock broking platform Zerodha is preparing to enter the investment banking business, as it expands beyond broking and wealth management. According to a report by Business Standard, the Bengaluru-based company has applied for a Category-I merchant banking licence with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The application was filed in April and is currently awaiting regulatory approval. Confirming the development to Entrackr, a Zerodha spokesperson said, “We have filed an application for the merchant banking (Category 1) licence with SEBI. We’ll be able to share more about our business plans once we receive the licence.” Once approved, the licence will allow Zerodha to manage initial public offerings (IPOs), advise companies on raising capital, and offer other merchant banking services. The move comes at a time when India's IPO market is witnessing strong activity, with several startups and new-age companies preparing to go public over the next few years. The licence could help build a full-stack capital markets business. Three decades later, she has a new target in her sights – and it’s global When Erin Brockovich woke to find 30 emails from people from the same town, she realised something was going on. People email Brockovich all the time because of what happened in 1993, when she was instrumental in suing Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) on behalf of residents of the town of Hinkley, California, whose groundwater had been contaminated. The case resulted in a settlement of $333m – then the largest ever payout for a direct-action lawsuit. When she was immortalised by Julia Roberts in the 2000 film Erin Brockovich, she became the hero we didn’t know we needed, a modern day Joan of Arc. I recently made this great repo for polygenic prediction and embryo selection which I want to share with people. I've wanted something like this for almost a decade, and it's so easy now that we have these superhuman coding models. Note that I also have this longer technical essay attached to the repo, as well as these slides (I think they're both very nice!) Let's look at how everything works now. Data My repo pulls in data for existing predictors from the pgs (polygenic score) catalog, and filters to the best weights for each feature using claude's best judgment (this worked better than using simpler heuristics like recency and dataset size). There are predictors for intelligence, height, and many disease traits. Across adults these correlate with measured phenotype at around 0.3, 0.65, and 0.15-0.3 after accounting for obvious confounders like sex and age, so pretty nontrivial. In addition to uploading those final prediction weights, researchers will also upload per-snp (single-nucleotide polymorphism) correlations for each trait. Remarkably, those open-source gwas (genome-wide association study) sumstats are sufficient to rederive state of the art predictors. The field has rallied around developing techniques like lassosum or LDpred or SBayesRC for learning pgs weights, each of which assumes that all you have access to is these gwas sumstats, along with population-level linkage-disequilibrium matrices encoding how frequently neighboring snp's occur together compared to c…
